10/03/2011

For the second quarter of 2011, domestic economic activity registered, a growth rate of 4.2% compared to the 3.6% in volume during the same period the previous year. According to the quarterly briefings on the national accounts of the High Commission for Planning (HCP), this growth is the result of an increase in non-agricultural GDP of 4.1% contrasting a decline of 4.7% during the same quarter in 2010. In addition, the economy has seen an improvement of added value figures in the agricultural sector by a volume of 4.6% against a drop of 3.4% recorded the previous year. With the exception of a decline in activity for hotels and restaurants (-3.7%) and fishery products (-1.9%), non-agricultural sectors have experienced differing trends, indicated the HCP, attributing the growth to mining activities, which have increased by 2.3% compared with 51.3% in Q1 2010.
