Morocco is the first country in Africa and the 25th producer worldwide in the field of marine fisheries, with annual output exceeding 1 million tonnes. In 2014, Morocco produced 1.3 million tonnes of seafood including about 500,000 tons for export, according to figures provided by Maroc Export. The sea fishing sector contributed 2.3% to the national GDP on average over the last 10 years. The sector generated 170,000 direct jobs and 500,000 indirect jobs. Moroccan fish exports exceeded 15 billion MAD in 2014.
