APM set to build a 2nd terminal at a cost of €758M

APM Terminals was appointed as the operator of the new transhipping terminal in the port complex, Tanger Med 2. The new terminal will have an annual capacity of 5 million TEU. The total investment is 758 million Euros. Maersk Line will be one of the new terminal’s main clients, which will open in 2019 and will take the total transit capacity of the port to over 9 million TEU. It will be equipped with a highly automated system operating over the 2,000-metre long quay and will use pioneering technology that was first used at the Maasvlakte II Terminal in Rotterdam in 2015.
